From Practice to Reality – A New Perspective on Swedish Rescue Services

When Swedish firefighter Pierre Söderström traveled to Ukraine through Project Nyman, he experienced an event that would leave deep impressions—both professionally and personally. – They are much more effective and better prepared than we are to handle tasks during war, both in terms of personnel and resources. With all the lessons learned and despite the fears and heavy impressions the trip entailed, Pierre returns to one thing: faith in the people and the commitment within Swedish rescue services. I think this very much reflects our willingness as rescue workers and civil defense personnel—to do our best. One Friday morning, he saw a woman in her 40s laying fresh flowers at a memorial portrait. – If we can use the knowledge we've gained to work in a better and safer way in Sweden if the worst happens, then the trip has paid off long ago, concludes Pierre.
