Meeting of the Interinstitutional Working Group for Overcoming Problems in the Fisheries Sector

The first meeting of the Interinstitutional Working Group for overcoming problems in the fisheries sector was held, established by the Decision of the Government of Montenegro, with the aim of improving coordination between competent institutions and defining concrete measures for the development of the fisheries sector. Representatives of relevant ministries, the Public Enterprise for Marine Property Management of Montenegro, and representatives of the fishing sector participated in the meeting. Key challenges faced by professional fishermen and economic entities in the field of fisheries and aquaculture were discussed, with a special focus on the development of fishing infrastructure, providing adequate berths for fishing vessels, improving landing sites, modernizing the fishing fleet, operational costs, and strengthening institutional coordination. Fishermen's representatives had the opportunity to present their problems, initiating the process of defining priority activities to be included in the Action Plan for improving the fisheries sector. It was concluded that it is necessary to continue intensive dialogue among all relevant institutions and sector representatives to define sustainable and long-term solutions through a coordinated approach, which will contribute to improving fishermen's business conditions, sustainable management of fish resources, and further development of Montenegrin fisheries. The working group will continue its work according to the established dynamics, and will regularly report on the implementation of activities to the Government of Montenegro.
