Ibrahimović Receives Lithuania’s Newly Appointed Ambassador Lina Gubrevičiūtė: We Expect Lithuania’s Continued Support in the Final Stage of the Accession Negotiations
Minister Ibrahimović congratulated the ambassador on taking office and wished her success in carrying out her diplomatic mission, expressing his conviction that her engagement would contribute to further improving bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation between Montenegro and Lithuania. Ibrahimović thanked Lithuania for its continued support for Montenegro’s European integration, expressing the expectation that this support would continue in the coming period, particularly in view of the final stage of Montenegro’s negotiating process and Lithuania’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027. Ambassador Gubrevičiūtė reiterated Lithuania’s position that unresolved bilateral issues should not affect Montenegro’s negotiating process towards EU membership. The minister added that Montenegro, with all negotiating chapters open and 21 of a total of 33 chapters provisionally closed, confirms its status as the most advanced candidate country and contributes to strengthening the credibility of the European Union’s enlargement policy. The interlocutors exchanged views on opportunities to intensify cooperation and share experiences in areas of mutual interest, particularly once Montenegro becomes an EU member. At the multilateral level, the interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the two countries’ partnership and friendly relations, along with their shared commitment to European integration, regional and international security, and the advancement of international cooperation.
