Đaković: Support for local producers and food safety are key to agricultural development
The event gathered over 100 exhibitors from Montenegro, the region, and Europe, showcasing agricultural and food products, handmade crafts, and artisanal items. Representatives of the Food Safety, Veterinary, and Phytosanitary Affairs Administration presented their work and responsibilities, with a focus on supporting agriculture through plant and animal health protection, food safety, providing expert information, and conducting official controls. The fair also featured campaigns from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), #Safe2Eat and #PlantHealth4Life, emphasizing the importance of food safety and plant health. The #Safe2Eat campaign offers information to help consumers make informed decisions about food, including safe handling, nutrition, additives, flavors, new foods, and allergen labeling. These are fundamental to consumer trust and the long-term competitiveness of producers, said Vladimir Đaković, director of the Food Safety, Veterinary, and Phytosanitary Affairs Administration. He also highlighted that the development of agriculture involves continuous investment in knowledge, responsible production, and adherence to standards. Berane Municipality President Đole Lutovac emphasized the need for concrete support for producers, creating safety and new opportunities for their work, improving production and processing technologies, and developing recognizable products.
