Open registration for funding
The foundation supports initiatives that are of strategic importance to the open information society, particularly for the development and popularization of open standards and (network-oriented) open source technology. This ranges from software development, standardization work, and educational material development to security tools and support for digital civil rights activities. An important requirement is that any software resulting from a project must be made available under an approved open source license (GPL, BSD, Apache, etc.). Typically, within two weeks after the deadline, you will hear whether your project meets all the criteria, and within four to five weeks, you will know if we want to proceed with you. Projects requiring significantly more budget than is possible within NLnet's open registration are advised to arrange a meeting with one of our staff to discuss options. Currently, several dozen projects and organizations receive financial support, including the research lab NLnet Labs, Unhosted, Lantern Project, Calligra Suite, WebODF, AbiWord, Serval, Jitsi, 0cpm, and WireGuard.
