Radulović: Commission’s Work Important for Improving the Quality of Seafarer Training and Education

Minister of Maritime Affairs Filip Radulović met with members of the Commission for Verifying Compliance of the Maritime Education and Training System, praising their work to date, particularly their commitment and efforts during inspections of seafarer training centres. The meeting noted that establishing the Commission was a corrective measure to meet a key requirement of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), and that its work represents an important step toward improving oversight of the seafarer education and training system. Inspections of seafarer training centres are especially important in this process, as the quality of knowledge and skills assessments forms the basis for reliably evaluating the competence of future seafarers. Consistent application of the prescribed STCW standards is essential for navigational safety, confidence in issued certificates, and the competitiveness of Montenegrin seafarers on the international labour market. Continuous and professional oversight, together with cooperation among the relevant institutions, educational establishments, and seafarer training centres, provides the foundation for further improving the maritime education and training system. The aim of this process is a high-quality and reliable system in which acquired knowledge, practical skills, and competency assessment procedures meet the requirements of modern seafaring.
